On Friday Rae entered a Children's Cupcake Contest. Here's the cupcake "she" made - with a lot of help from me! Unfortunately, by the time it got judged some of the strawberries were sliding off the frosting. And, unfortunately, most of the cupcakes were way more awesome than ours. But we had a lot of fun doing it. Oh, and you can't tell from the picture, but the actual cupcake was colored red, white and blue.
On Saturday we missed the pancake breakfast at church because we actually slept in till 8! So I got up and made red and blue pancakes for the kiddos.
Then later in the day we went to a parade. It was cold and rainy all day, sure didn't seem like July! We watched the fireworks from the church parking lot to avoid crowds and so that we would be far enough away so the noise wouldn't scare the kids. Well, it was so cloudy and rainy that the fireworks would explode in the clouds and all you could see was the cloud light up. But elsewhere in town there were some people doing big fireworks, so we turned around and watched those. After a few minutes the clouds parted enough that we could see the city fireworks and we enjoyed the finale. We got home around 10 and set off the rest of our fireworks and called it a night. We had been keeping the kids up late all week to do fireworks, so we are all behind on sleep! I was really glad today that we have church at 1pm!

Looks like a fun 4th of July! That cupcake contest is a good idea!
We had a great weekend, but the spot we went to to see the city fireworks was very disappointing :o( It was basically like watching them on TV (not impressive at all) For someone who grew up always watching a big show (Chad's family really didn't) it was very sad. Glad you guys had a good time! I am wondering if I will still be allowed to do our own when we get home on the 8th.
Seth's parents were here so we cook yummy steaks on the grill with corn on the cob baked beans and watermelon. Late that night we went to a fireworks show... It was so packed it took us 30 minutes to get in from 1/2 a mile away and over an hour to get out afterwards, but Lily LOVED the fireworks even close up. She would point and ooo and ahh and name her colors. the show was great, but really long (over 30 minutes of straight in the air fireworks) anyway it was nice, but i think next year (when we have a 5 month old) we will not to to the actual thing but watch from farther way with less traffic.
