ERGH!

Okay, help me out here. I bought new muffin pans a few weeks ago. I made some cupcakes (I used paper liners) and they totally burned. I thought maybe it was because of the liners because they were from last Halloween. Well, today I tried again with nice new liners and they burned again! The bottoms are totally scorched! And I had set the timer for only 15 minutes even though the recipe said 18 minutes. The tops and middles are perfect - you can tell it is from the liners. What is the deal with that? Is there something about new muffin pans that you aren't supposed to use paper liners or something? I've made muffins several times without liners and they cooked fine.

The really frustrating thing is that I was going to just buy some cheesy cupcakes from Walmart so that I wouldn't have to make any. Now I have to buy them anyway!

Is it a dark pan? We only use light pans now. Also how low in the oven are you cooking them? I don't know what else to tell ya... good luck.

It is a dark pan, so I turned the oven down a little bit. But my muffins turn out just fine -that is what is so weird about it. I cook everything on the top rack.

that is weird, i don't know what to tell you. we have the silicone (sp?) muffin pan and I hate it... despite what they say you do have to either heavily coat it with something or use papers and its so flimsy you have to use 2 hands to pull it out (even though its small)

ash our muffins always burn on the botton too! i deceided to just blame it on a bad oven. we now turn the oven down 50 degrees and cook them for half the time. that seems to give us better success.

Don't know if this is the problem but we had an oven once that with certain things we would bake would burn on the bottom. We started turning the temp down by about 20 degrees and then put a metal pan on the bottom rack. It seemed to reflect the heat a little better throughout the oven and our food came out cooked more evenly. Other than that I don't really know what it could be?
