La la la....

Gas is down to $1.67 here! We just filled up our van and it only cost 30 bucks! Woo hoo! I am so flippin' excited! Now I don't have to feel so guilty when I want to go to Columbia all the time.

We got our family picture taken today. So glad to have that out of the way. I also bought my very first turkey today. A whole turkey. Wow. I'm not sure how it is gonna go cooking it, but it was so much cheaper to buy than a "ready to put in the oven" turkey or a turkey breast, which is what I wanted to buy. Last year Lindsey and Seth visited Davis and brought a turkey and it seemed easy enough to cook, so I'm going to give it a shot. I already have some oven bags from when they visited, now I just need one of those big roasting pans. And we picked up all the fixin's for our turkey dinner. We'll be doing:

-Turkey (with lots of butter for Roy to spread on his)
-instant mashed potatoes (since we all prefer them to real ones)
-corn on the cob (Rae's request)
-a can of green beans (Blaise's request),
-"stove-top" stuffing (I'm the only one that will eat it)
-jellied cranberry sauce (just because it's tradition)
-homemade rolls (to make up for the instant potatoes)
-I'm thinking of attempting gravy, but none of us really care for it, so I might not even bother

And for dessert - we got a frozen chocolate pie that looks so delicious that I might eat it tonight and replace it on Monday! :)

Am I missing anything?

Nice and simple, not too much work but still all the tradition. Should be fun.

I still haven't taken a picture of myself with my new haircut. I really liked the way I looked in the portraits we did today, so I'm feeling more confident about my choice of bangs. For a while I wasn't sure whether I liked them or not. But today all I did was blow-dry my hair and it looked really nice in the pictures. I'll try to remember to take a picture soon.

Anyway, hope everyone has a nice weekend a nice Thanksgiving!

Yes take a picture of your new hair do, I am excited to see it! I really need to do something with mine. Hey where did you guys get your family photos at? We were going to get some done this year too.

What's with all the "instant" stuff? Real mashed potatoes are the way to go. And no gravy? You've got to be kidding! Bobby got me too used to authentic stuff. We'll even be using real butter this year.

Real mashed potatoes are usually gross. The best ones I ever had were only about as good as cheap instant ones, so why bother? Unless, you know, you have something against sodium... :)

I only like real mashed potatoes if they are completely smooth and creamy with no lumps. The only mashed potatoes I've ever had like that were our neighbor's potatoes last thanksgiving and instant mashed potatoes. If you can make them like that let me know how you do it!

Real butter is something we've gotten into lately and now I can't go back to margarine!

And I don't really care for gravy. I prefer mashed potatoes with no gravy but I do like gravy on my turkey and stuffing. Roy just likes butter on his turkey. :)

Jamie - we just went to Walmart for our picture. Cheap, easy, decent quality. We figured that one of our kids would be uncooperative, so what's the point of spending a lot of money. (BTW, Blaise was a huge turd and cried during most of the pictures)

YOU ARE CRAZY ROY! What is wrong with your taste buds?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Ashley - if you want this lump-free you use a ricer. No lumps and very fluffy.

He's not that crazy :) I've always loved instant mashed potatoes more than real ones. I remember for my birthday dinner I would specifically request instant ones. I'll have to try a ricer next time I make real ones. I guess I'd have to buy a ricer first....

yeah, I have always thought you are crazy too.

Yeah, I bought a ricer at Goodwill once, and it got rusty and nasty on me after one use (last Thanksgiving) so we get lumps this year.

My mom's mashed potatoes are the best (I think) and they are super smooth, and really simple. I didn't know for years that some people had and liked lumpy mashed potatoes!
